Areas Of Specialist Interest
I have been working as a Therapist since 2000. My training means I can help you with a wide range of issues, problems or concerns.
Over the years I have gained significant experience and undertaken additional training in areas of particular interest to me, including:
Children & Young People
Following my Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, I completed a specialist training in Working with Children and Young People (PCCS Manchester). I feel passionately about the importance of providing respectful and empowering support for clients, regardless of their age, in a safe and confidential environment.
My ethnic origin is White British, however my immediate family members are Black African and Dual Heritage. My personal experience of cross-cultural relationships has enriched my life and also helped to inform my work in cross-cultural counselling relationships.
Complex Mental Health Problems
Having previously worked as a Manager in an out of hours Crisis Service and Telephone Helpline, I am experienced at working with clients experiencing short term emotional distress as well as those with severe and enduring mental health problems.
I can provide bespoke group workshops and training for practitioners in a variety of settings, on a wide range of topics, including many of those above. Please contact me to discuss your requirements
People affected by HIV & AIDS
How I Work
I will not tell you what to do, or give advice, but will aim to provide a safe and confidential place in which you can talk about yourself, your problems, concerns and hopes, and where you can decide what, if any, changes you may wish to make in your life.
I will endeavour to help you in this process in a way that is supportive and empowering. I hope that you will come to feel comfortable, trusting and sufficiently supported to bring any issues you may wish to explore.
I find that, although I would always describe my approach as ‘Person-Centred’, I work slightly differently with each new client I meet. I endeavour to respect the specific needs and personal culture of each individual.
Counselling is a process which takes time and commitment. I hope that we can work together for as long as you feel necessary. Many issues can be resolved in short-term work, whilst others may require longer-term therapy.
I have been working as Counsellor since 2000.
I have a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and a post qualifying Certificate in Working with Children and Young People. I gained both of these qualifications at PCCS Training in Manchester.
I also have a Diploma in Person-Centred Supervision from Temenos in Sheffield. You can find out more about my supervision practice on the Person-Centred Supervision page of this website.
I have a diploma in Counselling and Supervision Integrating Therapeutic Technology awarded by OLT, which makes it possible for me to work with you online. This training is approved by The Association for Counselling and Therapy Online. Please click here if you’d like to know more about working online with me.
Above all else, I find my counselling work extremely rewarding, and feel inspired by all the people I have had the privilege to work with.

Clients come to me for help with a wide range of issues. I find that, although I would always describe my approach as ‘Person-Centred’, I work slightly differently with each new client I meet. I endeavour to respect the specific needs and personal culture of each individual.
I am a member of the BACP Private Practice Executive Committee. This role involves raising the profile of private practitioners within the BACP and the public, through planning conferences, local events and contributions to the Private Practice journal.
I am experienced in open-ended and time-limited counselling and I really enjoy the combination of working as part of a team, within an organisation, and working independently.
Private counselling clients refer to me from a number of sources, many from word-of-mouth recommendations. I am also an Approved Counsellor for Yorkshire Mesmac which is one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country. They offer services to various communities including men who have sex with men, BME people, people misusing drugs, sex workers and LGB&T young people and adults.
I have previously worked as a Counselling Manager for a charity in Leeds which supports young people aged 13-25 years. Prior to that I also worked as a Manager in an out of hours Crisis Service and Telephone Helpline, working with clients with short term emotional distress as well as those with severe and enduring mental health problems.
Prior to training as a Counsellor I designed and bought Menswear for well-known international retailers. I feel that, alongside my experience of working in the voluntary sector, this has given me a rich understanding of different working environments and lifestyles, which helps me to work empathically with each client I meet. I enjoy creative pastimes and use creative materials in therapy if clients find it helpful.
